Community Foundation Scholarships

Community foundations are non-profit organizations or trusts that make grants to improve the lives of citizens in their neighborhood. Many of them provide scholarships to help students pay for college. There are hundreds of Community Foundations in the United States, many giving away substantial amounts of money. In fact, there were seven American community foundations that gave awary more than $100 million in grants last year.

 

Community Foundation Scholarships

The Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley Scholarships

The Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley offers 68 scholarships to students living in their area of service.  Although the foundation serves Dutchess, Ulster and Putnam counties in New York, many of the scholarships are also available to students living in, Columbia, Greene, Orange, and Westchester counties.  The majority of the scholarships are for high school seniors, but there are some for students returning to school, for graduate study and for nursing scholarships.  The scholarship awards range from $500 to $4500.

Community Foundation of Central Illinois

The Community Foundation of Central Illinois is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving a 50-mile radius surrounding the City of Peoria (excluding McLean County).  They are dedicated to enhance the quality of life of those who live in their community.  They are supported by private and public donors and seek contributions primarily from the community they serve. 

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts Scholarships

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts offers many scholarships to students in the three counties bordering the Connecticut River in Western Massachusetts (Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties). They have a scholarship and student loan program for students attending accredited institutions of higher education in the United States.   Most of their scholarships are for residents of the Pioneer Valley with some exceptions. Each scholarship fund has been setup to honor or memorialize people or by sponsoring organizations, therefore they have different require

The Connecticut Community Foundation Scholarships

The Connecticut Community Foundation helps students in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills area attend college through their scholarship program.  They serve 21 towns in Western Connecticut and most of the scholarships are for students living in those the 21 towns, however applicants for  Sergeant Felix M. DelGreco, Jr.

Minnesota Association of Townships Scholarships for High School Juniors

Every year the Minnesota Association of Townships offers four $1000 scholarships to high school Juniors in the state of Minnesota. Applications must be submitted by May 1, 2013.

The Community Foundation of Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties Scholarships

The Community Foundation of Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties of northern Pennsylvania. They are dedicated to the improvement of their community. They are supported by private and public donors and seek contributions primarily from the community they serve. 

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation Scholarships

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, Inc. is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving Northern Chautauqua County. Since 1986 they have been dedicated to the improvement of their community. They are supported by private and public donors and seek contributions primarily from the community they serve. 

Grand Haven Area Community Foundation Scholarships

The Grand Haven Area Community Foundation and its two affiliates Allendale Community Foundation Coopersville Area Community Foundation are awarding scholarships to graduating seniors.  There are 70 scholarship funds that will provide scholarships to based on financial need, academic achievement, and personal and career goals.  The deadline for applications is March 1, 2013.

Adirondack Community Trust (ACT) Scholarships

The Adirondack Community Trust offers many scholarships to students living in their area of service of upstate New York.  The majority of the scholarships are for high school seniors.  The scholarships range from $500 to $10,000.  Deadlines range from April to June.

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Scholarship Program offers more than 60 different to local students.  Although the majority of the scholarships require Tennessee residency, some do not.  The scholarships range from $500 to $2,500.  Applications and other supporting documents must arrive by the deadline of March 15th.  Because each scholarship is established by a different donor, the eligibility requirements differ for each.  More information can be found on the Community Foundation of Middle Te

The Community Foundation for the Capital Region Scholarships

The Community Foundation for the Capital Region is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving Albany, New York and surrounding communities. Founded in 1968, they are dedicated to the improvement of their community. They are supported by private and public donors and seek contributions primarily from the community they serve.

The Central New York Community Foundation is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving Central New York.  They are dedicated to enhance the quality of life of those who live in their community.  They are supported by private and public donors and seek contributions primarily from the community they serve. 

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo Scholarships

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving people from eight counties (Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming) of Western New York. Established in 1919, they have been serving the community ever since and they have been awarding scholarships since 1924.  They are dedicated to the improvement of their community. They are supported by private and public donors and seek contributions primarily from the community they serve. 

The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes Scholarships

The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving Upstate New York or Northern Pennsylvania. They are dedicated to the improvement of their community. They are supported by private and public donors and seek contributions primarily from the community they serve. 

Society of Women Engineers Local Scholarships

Young women who are interested in the science and engineering fields are encouraged to apply for the many scholarships sponsored by local chapters of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Each section has a different deadline. In general they range from February to March.

SWE Twin Tiers Scholarship

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a national organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering. The Twin Tiers SWE branch is sponsoring a scholarship to encourage young woman to explore the field of engineering. To be eligible for this $2,000 scholarship, you must live in the following New York zip codes: 148**, 149**, 169** or be a resident of Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation Scholarships

The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, founded in 1978, is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving the Chautauqua Region of northwestern New York. They are dedicated to the improvement of their community. They are supported by private and public donors and seek contributions primarily from the community they serve. 

Wisdom Family Foundation Financial Aid Program

The Wisdom Family Foundation provides financial aid to both families and children living in the greater Elgin Illinois area.  Each application is reviewed by the Foundation Board and Steering Committee.  You can download a copy of the application or request it directly from the foundation by emailing them at: info@wisdomfamilyfoundation.org or calling (847) 841-7002.
