Female high school students with an interest in computing

The NCWIT (National Center for Women & Information Technology) Award for Aspirations in Computing was established to recognize young women who have strong interests in the field of computing. The award offers a young women the chance for recognition and scholarships. In addition to the national award program, there are “affiliate” competitions with many awards on the local level.

Applications are accepted from September 15-October 31.  Award recipients are notified in early December and award events take place around the country December through May.
 

Eligibility:

  • High school girls (you may re-apply each year of high school)
  • United States residents

Judging:

  • Demonstrated outstanding aptitude and interest in information technology/computing
  • Solid leadership ability
  • Good academic history
  • Plans for post-secondary education

National Award-winners receive:

  • $500 in cash
  • a laptop computer, provided by Bank of America
  • a trip to attend the Bank of America Technology Showcase and Awards Ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • an engraved crystal award for both the student and the student's school

Affiliate winners receive various prizes including cash, technology, and scholarships, provided by more than 300 local sponsors.

In addition, award-winners and runners-up have access to scholarships, internships, research experiences, and other educational and employment opportunities provided by sponsors.
