Pride Foundation Scholarship Program

The Pride Foundation and The Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) are giving scholarships to promote diversity in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and straight-ally communities. Although there are numerous scholarships, there is only one application. To be eligible, you must live in one of these states: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon or Washington.

The Alaska Community Foundation Scholarships

The Alaska Community Foundation partners with donors and communities to improve the quality of life for all. They do this by creating endowments and other funds for the causes important to people all over the state. Below is a list of the scholarships they offer:

Nursing Scholarships - National and Local

National

National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) offers the following awards for to honor Hispanic nurses for their work: Ildaura Murillo-Rohde Award for Education Excellence, the Henrietta Villaescusa Community Service Award, the Janie Menchaca Wilson Leadership Award, and the Sarah Gomez Erlach Humanitarian Award. Deadline: Early April.

Society of Women Engineers Local Scholarships

Young women who are interested in the science and engineering fields are encouraged to apply for the many scholarships sponsored by local chapters of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Each section has a different deadline. In general they range from February to March.

GEAR UP Scholarships

The GEAR UP program provides grants to local governments, some of the funds are also used to provide college scholarships to low-income students.  The program is a Federal discretionary grant program whose purpose is to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.  GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) serves students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follows them through high school.

Grant Money for Research in Developmental Disabilities

The Arc of Washington Trust Fund gives grant money for research into intellectual and other developmental disabilities.  The purpose of the Arc Trust is to promote research on the causes, prevention, and treatment of intellectual and other developmental disabilities and their personal, social, and legal consequences.
