The Alaska Community Foundation Scholarships

The Alaska Community Foundation partners with donors and communities to improve the quality of life for all. They do this by creating endowments and other funds for the causes important to people all over the state. Below is a list of the scholarships they offer:

Kenny Carver Scholarship | Due March 17, 2016

Kenny Carver was a long time Kenai area resident who owned and operated Kenny Carver Drilling and was active in many community affairs. Eligible applicants must be graduating seniors of Kenai Central High and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference to applicants interested in a vocational field.

 

Carl Seaman Memorial Scholarship | Due March 17, 2016

Carl Seaman was a businessman and council member in Kenai from the late 1950s to the 1980s. He was a supporter of Kenai Central High School when it was built in the 1960s. Eligible applicants are Kenai Central High graduating seniors and have financial need. Preference to applicants planning to study either Horticulture or Biology.

 

Maurie Harrington Memorial Scholarship | not currently accepting applications.

Maurie Harrington was very active in the Kenai Central High student council and leadership activities. Eligible applicants are Kenai Central High graduating seniors, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and are active in student leadership for at least 2 years. Preference given to applicants with extra community service hours. 

 

Frank & Carol Pinkerton Orchestral String Instrument Scholarship | not currently accepting applications.

Frank and Carol Pinkerton lived in Alaska for 46 years, and were active music educators and performers. Eligible applicants must be students of violin, viola, cello and string bass, and may be graduating high school seniors or currently enrolled at an institute of higher education. Preference is given to applicants who express an interest in music teaching.

 

Sitka Scholarship | Due March 26, 2016

Established in honor of Tadao Sasayama, Founder of the Alaska Pulp Corporation. Eligible applicants must be Sitka High School seniors who plan to pursue post-secondary education. Selection will be based on outstanding academic achievement and or special talent.

 

 

 

Nordic Ski Association Scholarship | March 31, 2016

The Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage scholarship encourages scholastic performance, cross-country skiing, and participation in community ski activities. Eligible applicants must be Alaskan residents who are high school seniors or currently enrolled as college students. Applicants must be members of the high school cross-country ski team during their junior and senior years and must have individual or family memberships in the NSAA.

 

David E. Knox Memorial Nursing Fellowship | not currently accepting applications.

The fellowship honors David Knox, who moved to Alaska in 1973 to pursue a career in surgical nursing after serving in the Army as a surgical technician in Vietnam. Eligible applicants must be in 2,3 or 4-year registered nursing degree programs and have committed to practice as a nurse/RN in a small community within the state of Alaska for a minimum of one year. Preference is given to applicants who are near completion of their degree. 

 

Sven & Lorraine Eriksson Scholarship | not currently accepting applications.

Sven and Lorraine Eriksson are true Alaskan pioneers. Eligible applicants must graduates of an Alaskan high school, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, be enrolled full-time at a University of Alaska campus for the upcoming academic year and plan to study electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or music.
