Spirit of Anne Frank Awards

The Anne Frank Center is looking for high school seniors that have played a leadership role in their community. The Spirit of Anne Frank Award will go to a student who has exhibited some of the principles and ideals of Anne Frank.  The Center suggests that some of the following activities are possible examples:

Avon Foundation President's Recognition Program Scholarship

Your mother or grandmother must be an Avon Representative

If your mother or grandmother is an Avon Representative, then there's a scholarship for you too!  This award is for 12th grade students.  The program is called the President's Recognition Program Scholarship for Children and Grandchildren.

Hadden Scholarship

The Alexander and Maude Hadden Scholarship is awarded to exceptionally worthy, financially needy, secondary school seniors for their undergraduate college education.

Society of Professional Journalists Freedom of the Press High School Essay Contest

The Society of Professional Journalists believes that the American people need to understand and be informed about the issues in order to make decisions that impact their lives. Journalists provide this information in an accurate, comprehensive, timely and understandable manner.

 

To encourage high school students to think about these important concepts they are sponsoring the Society of Professional Journalists Freedom of the Press High School Essay Contest. To compete, you must write a 300-500 word essay.

FIRE's Freedom in Academia Essay Contest

In high school other people control you, in college you're free; or so most students believe. FIRE's Freedom in Academia Essay Contest asks you to think about why free speech is important in college. They also address cases where school have curtailed or limited student’s right by using speech codes or other mechanisms to limit expression.
