The Poetry Out Loud Recitation Contest is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and The Poetry Foundation. The contest features a list of about 600 poems for students to choose from. The student must enter a local competition before they can move on to the state competitions. State level competitions are in late February and March.

Only schools registered with their state Poetry Out Loud coordinator are eligible for the competition. If your school is not participating, contact your state Poetry Out Loud coordinator to discuss other opportunities for inclusion in the state’s official competition. Homeschooled students may participate by competing in a contest at a local school (at the school’s discretion) or with other local homeschooled students.
