Invent an Instrument Contest

Have you ever made a sound with a soda bottle or banged on a garbage can and tried to imagine what other common place things could generate sounds?  Then the Invent an Instrument Contest is for you. 

It is offered by the Blue Man Group, and it asks students in grades 5-9 to invent an original musical instrument out of re-purposed or everyday objects.

The grand prize is $5,000 and a trip to New York.  The deadline is February 15, 2011.

 

Avon Representative Scholarship Program

Are you an Avon Representative?  Then this is the scholarship for you!  The program helps up to 125 repesentatives pay for undergraduate or graduate education.  The award is $1,500 for part time representatives and $2,500 for full time reps.  The awards are not renewable but the student may reapply to the program each year. The deadline is February 1, 2012.

Kids' Science Challenge

Can you make a battery from mud?  Why does it work?  Check out the Kids’ Science Challenge website and find out.  If questions like this are always popping into your head, this is the event for you. 

The Kids’ Science Challenge is a competition for 3rd-6th graders.  You have to submit experiments and problems for real scientists and engineers to solve.

Just visit the Samsung website and watch the top ten finalists and vote for your favorite. You have until December 15, 2012 to enter your vote.
