The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes Scholarships for Returning Adult Students

The Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes is an independent, private, nonprofit organization serving Upstate New York or Northern Pennsylvania. They offer scholarships to adults returning to school or seeking further education

Adults
The Community Foundation offers the following scholarships for adults seeking further education:
 
A Hope 4 Lyme Scholarship
Eligibility:
The is for a non-traditional student.
Selection Criteria:
This scholarship is available for anyone who meets one of the following criteria:
  • Has been diagnosed or treated for Lyme disease
  • Has been affected by Lyme thru the illness of an immediate family member
  • Is pursuing a career in the medical field
  • Is a resident of Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Bradford, Lycoming or Potter county.
Award Amount: $500

Daniel A. Driscoll Scholarship
Eligibility:
This scholarship is awarded to an individual who plans to pursue a career in photography.  It can be awarded to a high school senior or a college/trade school student.
Selection Criteria:
This scholarship is available for someone who meets the following criteria:
  • Must be a Chemung County resident
  • Must be planning on studying photography in college or trade school
Award Amount: $1000

American Association of University Women Scholarship
Eligibility:
This scholarship is awarded to a woman who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in the areas of scholastic ability, character, and extracurricular/community involvement. 
Selection Criteria:
This award may be given to a high school senior from Corning-Painted Post, Addison, Campbell-Savona, a sophmore at Corning Community College who is planning on entering into a four-year college full-time, or an adult women who is entering a four-year college full-time.  
Award Amount: $550

La Luz Early Childhood Teacher Education Fund
Eligibility: The La Luz Early Childhood Teacher Education Fund assists adults that want to attain an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, or to obtain a New York State Director’s Credential.
Selection Criteria:
  • The select college must grant a degree specific to Early Childhood Education
  • Financial need strongly considered
  • Preference shall be given to those applicants who are employees of the Child Care Center at Christ Church, Corning, NY.
Award Amount: $4000 - can be divided among more than one applicant

Kurt and Ellen Wohl Scholarship
Eligibility: Kurt and Ellen Wohl established this scholarship for "non-traditional" students. This is often a student returning to school after an extended period of time.
Selection Criteria:
  • 25 years or older
  • Recently accepted at a technical school, college, university, or nursing school for a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester
  • Will attend an educational institution within 55 miles of Elmira (These include - but are not limited to- Elmira College, Keuka College, Binghamton University, Corning Community College, Arnot Ogden Medical Center and Elmira Business Institute)
  • Current resident of Chemung County, 2+ years
  • Meets income requirements
  • Preference will be given to a student pursuing Early Childhood Education and/or certification
Award Amount: $7,600- can be divided by more than one applicant
